  4. Tony says:

Wow, I have just received your excellant magazine in the post today (Tuesday 21st Dec).
I hope you have not been sent to Coventry by the men at Margate!
We are being spoilt rotten by Bachmann, Hornby & Dapol.
I wish they would all keep “MUM” on their new projects until they get to engineering prototype 1.
Now how about some one making an Electrostar with interchangeble tooling.

  5. peter says:

Why didn’t you review the new Hornby Javelin?

    • Gareth says:

No room unfortunately, but realistically what is there to say?

      • peter says:

If it’s a realistic model or not? How else are we to know without buying one of your rival’s magazines? RE is the only magazine I get, so it makes me consider buying it in the future if a major new release will be reviewed or not.

If there was no room, I would suggest dropping Mostyn, dropping the editorial, or having a review on the website.

      • Gareth says:

The Javelin is of extraordinarily limited interest to the RAIL EXPRESS readers by virtue of its limited operational sphere and ultra-modern useage. Is it a realistic model? Yes. End of story. I’m not sure what else we can say. We said as much two issues ago on the contents page.

The editorial and Mostyn pages get loads of feedback, so we aren’t going to drop them for a model that is only of minority appeal to our readers. We judged that a picture caption ultra-mini review of the Javelin would be more than adequate.

        hi gareth
the review on the bachmann 4cep and res 47 was very fair i’ve got both and im happy plus i got them from a on-line shop with a fair bit off even better hornby have done well with the 4vep but, why not a re-done 90,73, or a 317,508 based unit but go back 20 years all we had was lima pancake motors ,i think we are better off ,yes/no
        happy new year to all

  6. mark jackson says:

Bit disappointed by hornby news wonder if they will announce something again at showcase later in the year as per DVT or was that a one- off.
    mark

  7. Howard says:

well im hoping its in stock at WH smith as im off. also any ideas on 2010 limited editionS?

    • Gareth says:

It should have hit the shops yesterday.

We can’t say anything about our 2010 limited and special edition programme just yet, although we are hoping to make an annoucement about our first items in the next issue.

  8. Howard says:

well, isnt in stock, gutted! ok will keep a listen out to your announcments

  9. mark jackson says:

    Hi Gareth
    happy christmas and new year!
Didn’t hornby promise us a year of the diesel a few years ago and we are still waiting!
Hornby can tool up 3 or 4 new steam locos a year while we get 1. I realise bachmann and heljan have taken a huge chunk but there are alot of models still that need a redo eg 59, 67,40 then the electrics!
Anyway rant over hopefully bachmann give us more to smile about
    cheers
    mark

  10. Howard says:

hornby 2010 – great one for our era D&E! also look at the javelin their doing, 3950??? in london 2012 livery!!! fantastic

  11. Alex Fenton says:

hornby has just realeased the 2010 range early, i cant belive it!, such a good release line up once again

  12. Stuart Goulding says:

Another great issue! Hope everyone at the mag had a good christmas and here’s to a great new year not only for the mag but for what is to come! Items like
bachmanns 03 (what started my love of trains), 105 unit, MPV and all those new wagons. Plus Heljans 86 and Dapols large selection of wagons.

Plus here is hoping that your considering DRS 20s as a future limited edition to go with my 37s

  13. Howard says:

    got mine today, superb

  14. DavidM says:

What’s this I hear about a Heljan Baby Deltic? Surely this should get a mention even if it is in Green

  15. stuart harris says:

why is hornby doing another ews class 60 sound version again.there are still lots of others to do like british steel blue or corus silver colours.what about large logo class 56 dcc .

    • Gareth says:

Yeah, we don’t understand Hornby’s livery policy. It took a lot of lobbying just to get the new colour schemes that have been announced this year.

  16. Richard says:

Why again ews , and green 08 . Why no triple grey .redstripe or intercity liveries. And what about coal.constuction and metals on the 60. Come on hornby

  17. Richard says:

How about Rex commisioning hornby 08 twinpacks. Say 08309 in coal with 08388 in petroleum and 08357 in redstipe with 08800 in intercity swallow. You could charge my card now for all 4 of them.

  18. Richard says:

    Sorry i meant 08537 not 08357

  19. Neil Robinson says:

    Hi Gareth

Any news yet on the Hornby DVT or is it to be another limited edition excuse!

Not impressed with the new line up of releases from Hornby, with so much being made about the 1980 / 1990’S liveries priot to privatisation surely they can come up with something better!

Better keep reading RE to find out what their complaints dept have to say (Hornby that is)!

A belated Happy New Year to the RE Team
    1

  20. mark a says:

    all the best

  21. larry says:

in your recent addition of EM with the revue of the new Bachmann 411 CEP, You have put one of coaches in the wrong order on the full length shot, the TSK toilet windows end should be next to motor car and not next to the TCK… oh well

I have the CEP and it’s hellfire, I also have Hornby’s 50015 Valiant with sound. I haven’t signed up to DCC yet but from just running the loco on DC and have the loco start up and thrash away it’s great I so need to get a DCC controller and start blowing the horn and dropping the brake all good stuff.

I think I have been coverted?

  22. Stephen says:

I notice that the release date for REM 70 ( Jan 21)has come and gone, any idea when this issue is going to be released? I know i’m not the only one who is getting fed up trailing into the shops trying to get this magazine, only to be told it isn’t out yet.

    Rant Over

    • Gareth says:

      Hi Stephen,

As soon as I have some updated information on when the magazine is likely to hit the shops then I’ll be sure to update the website. The date given in the magazine is, or on this website, is merely the target date which we supply to the distributors. As you should be aware by now, RAIL EXPRESS is finished when it is finished – we are only a small team here and it is often difficult for us to hit the published deadline. This issue has been slightly delayed due to an extra 16 pages which we decided to add at a late stage.

      Regards, Gareth
