The latest arrivals from the Margate-based firm.
THERE HAVE BEEN some notable new read-to-run models and accessories from Hornby hitting the shops in the last week or so. First up is the Class 73 electro-diesel in revised Network SouthEast livery.
Representing No. 73129 City of Winchester (Cat Ref. R2766, priced £66.00), the locomotive is unchanged over the previous release of the model. While the ex-Lima ‘ED’ is a decent starting point for a detailing project, or for beginners, the model is let down by the livery application. The shade of blue is far too dark even for the revised NSE colour scheme.
Also now out are the other two ‘Shark’ ballast plough brake van liveries, ZUV No. DB993782 in departmental ‘Dutch’ grey and yellow (Cat Ref. R6412) and ZUA No. DB993715 in Loadhaul black and orange (Cat Ref. R6413). Both are priced £14.75.
The Skaledale range expands into lighting with the release of six new packs under the Skale Lighting brand, which can be combined to illuminate structures from Hornby and other manufacturers. These are R8947 Power Strip – £5.50, R8948 Plugs (x6) – £1.99, R8949 Double Sockets (x2) – £2.50, R8950 Fuses (x4) – £1.50, R8951 Extension Wire (13 metres) – £3.95, and R8952 Bulbs (x4) – £3.95.
The final release is R8239 Digital System Booster, which can be used with the Hornby’s 4-amp transformer to provide more ampage to power locomotives and boost command signals to the locomotive decoders. Price is £65.00.
Look out for the next issue of RAIL EXPRESS Modeller, out on April 24th, for more information on these new releases.
