RE and Dapol join forces to garner interest for a 4mm scale Mk.3b DVT.
FOLLOWING THE UNPRECEDENTED success of the co-ordinated appeal which has led to Dapol re-entering the ‘OO’ gauge market with a FEA container flat, RAIL EXPRESS has entered into a similar promotional arrangement to produce an important missing item of coaching stock in 4mm scale – the Mk. 3b DVT.
George Smith, Dapol Managing Director, said:
“I am very excited by the possibility of us being able to produce this much needed item of coaching stock in 4mm scale, however we must obtain a certain level of interest before we can begin work. All enquires at this stage should be directed to RAIL EXPRESS magazine who are promoting and marketing this project for us following their success with FEA wagon orders. Modellers who want this DVT model need to contact them with their commitment as soon as possible to ensure the model goes ahead.”
For the project to proceed, RE requires as many firm orders as possible by late February in order to meet Dapol’s target quantity for production of approximately 2,000 pieces. However, unlike other manufacturers, this can be split over several liveries. The first run is expected to include Virgin Trains, InterCity Swallow, ‘One’ Railway and EWS Executive, but if orders permit then schemes such as National Express East Coast/East Anglia, Cargo-D blue/grey, Virgin unbranded/’more yellow’ and Wrexham & Shropshire may also be produced.
Should the target be met, these respondents would be guaranteed to be catered for in a special ‘made-to-order’ production run with the aim of being launched at Warley 2008.
A price still has to be advised but the model will feature a high specification, similar to its smaller ‘N’ cousin, with the promise of DCC-ready directional lighting, RP25 wheels, interchangeable front valances plus a whole array of separately-fitted detail parts such as handrails, windscreen wipers, bufferbeam pipework and cosmetic drop-head coupling.
