Our new special edition: The Colas ‘twins’
In keeping with our unique position of having commissioned products from all the major manufacturers, and fresh from the success of the TCT Class 60 and FEA wagon, RAIL EXPRESS Modeller completes the set once again with a Class 47 ‘twin pack’ from ViTrains. LOVE THEM OR hate them, there’s not many diesel and electric era modellers that can manage to do without a Class 47. Here at REM headquarters we were suitably impressed with the latest 4mm scale effort from the newest entrant to the UK market, ViTrains. Without doubt, it has surpassed both the Heljan and Bachmann products in terms of fidelity and we have decided to reward this by placing our next special edition order with the Italian manufacturer.
After much badgering from readers, left disappointed by the current line-up of new models expected during 2009, and with the full support of the locos’ owner, we have commissioned a twin-pack of Colas Rail Class 47/7s, Nos. 47727 Rebecca & 47749 Demelza. It may be recalled that the machines were overhauled at Eastleigh Works in 2007 for the company’s rail head treatment train contract and have been a colourful sight on the railway ever since. In some ways we were lucky in our choice since ViTrains is the only firm to currently offer the Brush Type 4 in its final life-extended form!
As with past ‘special editions’ we have reached special agreement for the models to be ‘made-to-order’ before a clearly defined cut-off date, ensuring that all parties who register an interest will be guaranteed of success. In this instance, we require order confirmation by the end of May with a provisional delivery date of late summer. Fortunately, despite the poor exchange rate that has seen prices escalate, the Italians have not been subject to the same delays that have severely affected the firms with Chinese factories. Priority order forms are in the process of being despatched to previous customers but if you are new to us you will find out all your need on our website or, alternatively, give us a call on 01780 470086. As is to be expected, we will not take any payment until the models are physically in the UK and ready for mailing out.
The locomotives, which cannot be made available singly, will be referenced as accurately as possible and decorated to REM’s demanding specification, including accurate base colours and a wealth of fine printed lettering. In addition to the normal certificate of authenticity we will be providing an impressive set of etched stainless steel nameplates incorporating not only the Rebecca and Demelza names but worksplates and the 83H shedplates (worth around £8 for two locomotives!).
In an effort keep costs under control in these difficult times we have chosen to peg the price well below the new RRP and are pleased to be able to offer this collectable twin pack at £160 plus £4.95 to cover recorded delivery P&P.
